BAHASA MELAYU DIVISION

INTRODUCTION

The Bahasa Melayu Division caters for both Malaysian and International students of IIUM. All students in IIUM are required to take Bahasa Melayu as prescribed in the course outlines for each Kulliyyah. Generally, the aims of the Bahasa Melayu courses are as follows:

  1. To instill among students an awareness of the importance of Bahasa Melayu
  2. To be able to use appropriate Bahasa Melayu as is officially spoken and written among the Malaysians.
  3. To ensure students have the knowledge pertaining to the history and usage of Bahasa Melayu
  4. Comparatively, the use of Bahasa Melayu for foreign students is relatively lower in level. Malaysians students, however, are required to master the appropriate language registers in spoken and written Bahasa Melayu in accordance with the various disciplines.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

The Bahasa Melayu Programme is intended to develop the students proficiency in basic grammar, sentence structure and comprehension. The ultimate objective is to enhance their spoken and written language according to the requirements of the various disciplines offered in the IIUM. This is to ensure than the Malaysian students are well prepared in their respective careers where Bahasa Melayu is extensively used.

The Bahasa melayu programme for foreign students intends to instill interest of Bahasa Melayu and facilitate their social interaction among Malaysians during their stay in Malaysia.

  1. LM 1010 - Bahasa Melayu 1 (Malay 1)
  2. LM 1011- Bahasa Melayu 2 (Malay 2)
  3. LM 1020 – Bahasa Melayu Nusantara 1
  4. LM 1021 – Bahasa Melayu Nusantara 2

For Malaysian students

  1. LM 2015 - Bahasa Melayu for Economic Students
  2. LM 2016 - Bahasa Melayu for Science
  3. LM 2017 - Bahasa Melayu for Engineering Students
  4. LM 2020 - Bahasa Melayu Lanjutan
  5. LM 2021 - Bahasa Melayu untuk Kerjaya
  6. LM 2022 - Bahasa Melayu Perundang-undangan
