PRE-ARRIVAL INFORMATION
IIUM through Admissions and Records Division (for undergraduate) / Center for Postgraduates Studies (for Postgraduate) will submit the approval of Student Pass (student visa) to new students prior to your departure from home. This will ease your entry to Malaysia.

If regulation in your country requires you to obtain a visa before leaving the country, kindly make such application at the nearest Malaysian Embassay / Consulate Office. Otherwise, you may proceed to Malaysia without a visa. However, a visa will be issued to you after your arrival in Malaysia. For Immigration clearance, you are required to produce the Immigration approval letter upon arrival

INFORMATION / GUIDELINES OF IMMIGRATION FOR
FOREIGN STUDENTS

NEW APPLICANTS
All students who has been offered to study in Malaysia are required to have a Student
Pass approval before entering Malaysia. To process the application of a Student Pass, a student is required to submit

- 2 photocopies of all used pages of his/her passport;
- 2 passport-sized photographs.
- photocopy of offer letter

o Students who has previously applied/registered in any one of the institutions in Malaysia and possesses a Student Pass under that institution are required to get a letter of release from the said institution in order to cancel the Student Pass. Otherwise application for Student Pass under IIUM cannot be processed and thus will cause a delay in registration.

POSTGRADUATE STUDENTS
Postgraduate Students who would like to bring their family are advised to do so after registration at IIUM. Family members also require visa approval before coming to Malaysia. For application of visa clearance, please submit the following :
- copy of passport (student & family)
- Marriage Certificate
- Birth Certificates for children
- Student's admission letter or certification letter

Family members who enter Malaysia before receiving the approval letter from Malaysia, is required to pay a sum of MYR500.00 extra for each person, over and above the normal fees for dependent visa.
[Except for the duration stated above, accompanying family who would like to stay during the period of candidature of the student, must apply for visa from the Malaysian Embassy, otherwise the JP visa for each family member will be enforced]

o Please take note that Undergraduate Students, IfLA and Non-Graduating Students (students who are registered under exchange programme, short courses and research attachment) will not be issued with dependent pass. We would advise students of these categories not to bring their families to Malaysia.

EXTENSION OF STUDENT PASS/DEPENDENT PASS
1. Application for extension of Student Pass/Dependent Pass must be made through the ISD office at least one month before expiry of the said pass. The application must be enclosed with the passport and fee. Any penalty imposed by the Immigration office for overstay or any other penalties must be borne by the student.

2. Students who have reached the maximum period of candidature must first apply for extension of study and approved by the Admission Office first before any extension of Student Pass can be made.

3. Students whose validity period of their passport is expiring must first apply for renewal of validity period of the passport before extension of Student Pass can be made.

PROCESSING OFFICE
The application for visa is usually submitted to the Immigration Department in Shah Alam, Selangor and the processing period is about two weeks from the day the International Students Division receives a student's document. Some applications have to be submitted to the Immigration Headquarter in Putrajaya and the processing period is longer and usually takes about one months. This is particularly so for students from Pakistan, Bangladesh and India who are above 25 years old.

HEALTH REGULATIONS
Cholera vaccination is not required for travellers entering Malaysia. Visitors arriging from Yellow Fevel Endemic Zones and other affected areas are required to present International Health Certificates showing Yellow Fever vaccination. This regulation does not apply to children below the age of one.
