English Language Requirements
Students interested in pursuing a programme that is taught in English must demonstrate their proficiency in the English language through one of the following
- Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
- Test administered by the International English Language Testing Services (IELTS)
- IIUM’s English Placement Test (EPT).

Students who have been offered admission but are unable to fulfil the English requirement before the semester of enrolment have two years to do so. Should they fail to fulfil the requirement within the period, the offer of admission is automatically withdrawn.
For any of the bilingual programmes, a student may enrol in a provisional admission that would allow him or her to register concurrently for English and the programme’s courses.
Students in programmes taught exclusively in Arabic may take up English proficiency courses concurrently with their departmental courses, provided that they have been exempted from Arabic after sitting for the Arabic Placement Test (APT) and obtaining a score of at least 500 in TOEFL or 5.0 in IELTS or EPT before they register for their research projects or comprehensive examinations.

Arabic Language Requirements
Students seeking entry into programmes taught in Arabic must pass the IIUM administered Arabic Placement Test (APT). Those who fail in this test have one academic year during which they can try again. The offer of admission is withdrawn if they cannot fulfil the requirement within a year
